Eyes on Reading: Film Screening of The Right to Read

Thursday, May 11, 2023 | 6:30 p.m.

$0 | Friedman Family Auditorium

Literacy is a civil right, but not all children are learning how to read with proficiency. The Right to Read shares the stories of an NAACP activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read.

Join us for a screening of the recently released documentary The Right to Read by filmmaker Jenny Mackenzie and executive producer LeVar Burton. Share your thoughts, reactions, and questions with fellow viewers during a light reception after the screening.

This program is part of an in-depth exploration by Planet Word of beginning reading instruction in America. We explore the renewed focus on “the science of reading” and shed light on the literacy crisis and possible solutions.
