Wordplay Wednesday
Wednesday, March 4, 2026 | 5:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
$5.00 - $25.00 | 925 13th St. NW, Entrance on K Street
Planet Word and Arena Stage are teaming up to present Wordplay Wednesday attendees with a sneak peek of Arena Stage’s new production of Inherit the Wind, a play that tells the story of two legal giants battling over the right to think freely and explore new ideas without fear of persecution. Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee’s 1955 play fictionalized the Scopes Monkey Trial to subtly comment on the then-contemporary McCarthy trials and intellectual freedom.
Enjoy board games, word-based puzzles, crafts, and karaoke, plus activities inspired by Inherit the Wind — including a quiz that challenges you to ask better questions and spot bias in language. Then, close the night out with a panel discussion about the ways journalism has changed over the decades.
Drinks, beer, and wine will be available for purchase, alongside complimentary sweet treats from Flavorture. Those who attend will be eligible to purchase discounted tickets to an upcoming performance of Inherit the Wind.
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. — Explore the galleries, enjoy crafts and games
7:00 – 7:30 p.m. — Ticket giveaway to Arena Stage’s Inherit the Wind
7:30 – 8:15 p.m. — Panel: The Evolution of Journalism (Friedman Family Auditorium)
Pay what you can: $5–$25. Your ticket allows us to continue offering more great programs like Wordplay Wednesday to a wider audience.
