THE SASSOONS: The Great Global Merchants and the Making of an Empire

Thursday, October 27, 2022 | 6:00 p.m.

$0 | Friedman Family Auditorium

Against the monumental canvas of two centuries of the Ottoman Empire and the changing face of the Far East, across Europe and Great Britain during the time of its farthest reach, the Sassoon family created, then lost an empire. With access to rare family photos and archives, Georgetown University Professor Joseph Sassoon traces the untold story of the gilded Jewish Bagdadi Sassoons, who built a vast dynasty through global finance and trade—cotton, opium, shipping, banking—that reached across three continents and ultimately changed the destinies of nations.

Join Joseph Sassoon in conversation with his long-time friend Tom Friedman, as they discuss this generational saga. The Sassoons will be available for sale and signing.
