No Place to Call Home: A Street Sense Media Production

Thursday, July 27, 2023 | 4:30 p.m.

$0 | Friedman Family Auditorium

Planet Word is excited to feature the powerful words of talented, unhoused, local writers from Street Sense, a local organization that produces journalism, film, theater, photography and more, all for the purpose of providing economic opportunity and elevating the voices of people with lived experience of homelessness.

Street Sense has produced an original play complete with musical composition, created by members of the Street Sense Media Theatre Workshop, under the direction of workshop leaders Leslie Jacobson and Roy Barber, while supported by Maria Lares, Street Sense Media’s Manager of Artistic Workshops.

How much space does a human being need in order to live with some sense of security and dignity? Through the use of writing prompts and improvisations, No Place to Call Home reveals the particularly challenging situations unhoused people face when they are forcibly removed from a public area, such as McPherson Square Park.

Like all artistic endeavors, No Place to Call Home offers us a window into other people’s experiences, enabling us to feel empathy for others’ challenges and inspiring us to action, in order to improve the lives of people struggling in our community.

Please join us for a very special performance within the Friedman Family Auditorium.

The audience is invited to stay for a short “Talk-Back” with the Writer/Performers and Workshop Directors immediately following the performance.
