New Perspectives on Yiddish from a Century-old Archive
Wednesday, July 13, 2022 | 6:30 p.m.
Yiddish is a fascinating language with its own grammar, dialects, and a wealth of folk and literary traditions. The YIVO Institute for Jewish Research was founded in Vilna, Poland in 1925 to document and celebrate Yiddish — but after World War II their collection was scattered around the world. Now for the first time in a hundred years YIVO’s pre-war collection is all in one place — digitized online. Join the Director of the YIVO Archives, Stefanie Halpern, as she uses YIVO’s holdings to illuminate the richness of the Yiddish language and highlight surprising aspects of Eastern European Jewish life.
