Building Literacy Resource Fair: Making School-to-Home Connections

Saturday, October 05, 2024 | 1:00 p.m.

$0 | Mansard Room

Washington, D.C. families with K–12 students who are struggling readers, such as those who may have recently received a Dyslexia screener notification, are encouraged to check out this free resource fair.

Planet Word is joined by the D.C. chapter of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), which brings together Dyslexia Specialists, SLPs, and educators from the D.C. Metro Area to raise awareness of language and reading difficulties.

The event will kick off with an interactive guided orientation to what Dyslexia is and isn’t, followed by a drop-in resource fair with free LitKits — curated tool kits for building literacy skills — for the first 100 families, and a series of demonstrations of research-backed tools and activities that can help build a strong foundation of literacy at home.

Visit more than a dozen stations with opportunities to

* take part in hands-on demonstrations
* connect with language and literacy-focused organizations in D.C.
* learn about language and reading difficulties (such as dyslexia)
* ask experts questions about child(ren) or family goals

Enjoy snacks on the rooftop terrace (weather permitting) and raffle prizes, too!

Please consider donating to help Planet Word support accessible community programming. If you have questions or concerns about accessibility needs, contact [email protected].

Resource Fair registration does not include museum admission, which requires separate ticketing. Please use this link if you plan to visit the galleries before or after the fair.
