In celebration of National ASL Day, Planet Word welcomes visitors to watch free all-day screenings of SIGNING BLACK in AMERICA. Learn about this enlightening story centering on the unique dialect of American Sign Language known as Black ASL, born out of historically segregated African American Deaf communities.

SIGNING BLACK in AMERICA is the second installment of the Emmy Award winning TALKING BLACK IN AMERICA series, consisting of five interconnected documentaries on African American language and culture and their influential impact on the world.

Distinct uses of space, hand and directional movement, and unique facial expressions are ways that Black ASL distinguishes itself as a vibrant dialect of American Sign Language.
