Tom Friedman is the foreign affairs columnist for The New York Times. He has won the Pulitzer Prize three times for his work at The Times – in 1983 and 1988 for international reporting and in 2002 for Distinguished Commentary. In 2004, he was awarded the Overseas Press Club Award for lifetime achievement and the honorary title Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II. He is the author of six bestselling books: From Beirut to Jerusalem; The Lexus and the Olive Tree: Understanding Globalization; Longitudes and Attitudes: Exploring the World After September 11; The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century; Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution – And How it Can Renew America; and That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in the World We Invented and How We Can Come Back, co-written with Michael Mandelbaum. His latest book, Thank You for Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations 2.0, was updated and released in 2017.
